한국의 장마철에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

한국은 매년 여름 장마가 찾아온다. 장마철에는 많은 비가 내린다. 주로 6월 중순에 시작되어 7월까지 이어진다. 비가 오면 폭우가 쏟아지는 경우가 많다. 한국의 연간 강수량이 여름에 집중되어 있는 것도 이러한 장마의 영향이다. 사람들은 장마철에 항상 우산을 들고 다닌다. 장마철이 지나면 한여름의 폭염이 본격적으로 시작된다.

 

❝ Talk about the rainy season in Korea.

The rainy season comes around every summer in Korea. We get a lot of rain during the season. It usually begins in mid-June and lasts until July. When it rains, it often rains cats and dogs. The annual precipitation in Korea is concentrated in summer because of the rainy season. People always carry an umbrella around during the wet season. After the rainy season, the sweltering heat of summer begins in earnest.

비 오는 날 있었던 기억에 남는 사건에 대해서 이야기해 주세요.

하루는 지하철을 타고 어딘가를 가고 있었다. 전동차에 탑승하는 사람들이 모두 젖은 우산을 들고 있었다. 그걸 보고 밖에 비가 오는 것을 알 수 있었다. 우산을 가지고 오지 않아서 어떻게 해야 할지 고민이 되었다. 비를 맞고 그냥 가면 옷과 가방이 젖을 것 같았다. 집에 우산이 많아 우산을 또 사서 돈을 낭비하고 싶지 않았지만 어쩔 수 없었다. 그 이후로는 비 예보가 있는지 꼭 일기 예보를 확인하고 집을 나선다.

Once, I was going somewhere by subway. Everyone getting on the train was holding a wet umbrella. It tipped me off that it was raining outside. I didn't have an umbrella on me, so I was in a dilemma over what to do. If I just went out in the rain, my clothes and bag would get drenched. I didn't want to waste money on another umbrella because I had several at home. However, I had no choice. Since then, I always check whether the forecast calls for​ rain before I leave home.
