한국의 여름철 날씨에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

한국의 여름 날씨는 매우 덥고 습하다. 7월과 8월에는 낮 최고 기온이 섭씨 30도 이상 올라가기도 한다. 사람들은 옷을 가볍게 입고, 휴대용 선풍기를 들고 다니기도 한다. 날씨가 워낙 무덥다 보니 차가운 음료수를 찾는 사람들이 많다. 바다나 산으로 휴가를 가는 사람들도 많다. 여름에는 대부분 건물에 냉방장치가 가동된다. 9월에 들어서면 선선해지기 시작하고 가을이 찾아온다.

 

❝ Talk about the summer weather in Korea.

The summer weather in Korea is hot and humid. In July and August, the daytime highs can rise above 30 degrees Celsius. People dress lightly. They sometimes carry portable fans. Because the weather is sweltering, lots of people look for icy drinks. Many also go on vacation at the beach or in the mountains. The A/C is running in most buildings in the summer. In September, the weather begins to cool down and fall comes around.

옷을 가볍게 입어서 덥지는 않았다.

여름에는 대부분 건물에 냉방 장치가 가동된다.

자동차의 에어컨이 고장 났다.

▪It was hot, so I cranked up the A/C.

더워서 에어컨을 더 세게 틀었다.

점점 더워지고 있는 한국의 여름 날씨에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

올해 여름도 무척이나 덥다. 한국의 여름은 기상 관측이 시작된 이래로 평균 기온이 꾸준히 상승해 왔다. 2018년 여름은 역사상 가장 더운 여름으로 기록되었다. 일부 지역에서는 최고 기온 기록이 갱신되었고, 연일 폭염이 지속되었다. 밤에도 기온이 내려가지 않는 열대야 현상도 있었다. 지구 온난화도 매년 여름에 수은주가 상승하는 원인 중에 하나다.

Summer this year is hot, as per usual. The average temperature in the summer has risen steadily since Korea began to keep records. Summer of 2018 was the hottest summer on record in Korean history. Some areas rewrote the record books for highest temperature. Heat waves continued for days on end. There were tropical nights when the temperature wouldn't budge even at night. The mercury is rising each summer due, in part, to global warming.

3. mercury 수은주

▪The mercury is rising each summer.

매년 여름 수은주가 상승하고 있다.

▪The mercury rose over 35 degrees in the afternoon.

오후에는 수은주가 35도 이상으로 올랐다.

▪When the mercury rises above a certain temperature, matches are cancelled.

수은주가 특정 온도 이상으로 오르면 경기가 취소된다.

❝ Let me catch my breath.

나 숨 좀 돌리자.

 

A : Are you ready to go? If we don't leave now, we might be late.

B : Can you wait just a minute? Let me catch my breath.

A : Why are you so tired? Did something happen on your way here?

B : Nothing happened, but it's so hot outside. I'm exhausted.

A : 갈 준비됐니? 지금 출발 안 하면 늦을지도 몰라.

B : 잠깐만 기다려 줄 수 있어? 나 숨 좀 돌리자.

A : 왜 그렇게 힘들어해? 오는 길에 무슨 일 있었어?

B : 무슨 일이 있었던 건 아닌데, 밖이 너무 더워. 완전히 지쳤어.

1. 덥고 습한 날씨보다는 겨울이 낫다. (hot and humid)
